Every Record I Own - Day 338: Drab Majesty Careless

I first met Andrew when he played drums in the heavy atmospheric rock trio Marriages. In his downtime, he tinkered with guitars and drum machines to make echo-drenched pop music under the moniker Drab Majesty. Musically, the vibe is a little like Duran Duran dabbling in darkwave, but his aesthetic is a weird mixture of Bowie’s glam androgyny, dada absurdity, and black metal cultishness.

I first saw Drab Majesty at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn opening for King Dude after being invited to the show by Andrew’s old bandmate Emma Ruth Rundle. And I have a feeling that when I look back on this decade in however many years from now it takes for nostalgia to take hold, that evening will qualify as one of my most quintessential ‘10 experiences.
