Every Record I Own - Day 316: Neil Diamond His 12 Greatest Hits
My parents listened to a lot of Neil Diamond when I was really young. And then their tastes changed and I went several decades without “the Jewish Elvis” in my life, barring the occasional exposure to some grating rendition of “Sweet Caroline”.
I was working a temp job in my early 30s when someone in the office played one of his greatest hits compilations and it felt like being transported back to kindergarten. I didn’t want to go another 20 years without hearing “I Am I Said” or “Soolaimon”, so I picked up this collection for $2 somewhere. It was in the era between the introduction of mp3s and the beginning of streaming services, when vinyl was cheap and paying $2 for an LP was more practical than paying $9.99 on iTunes for a bunch of 1s and 0s.
