Every Record I Own - Day 221: Lurker of Chalice s/t

It was sometime in the mid-’00s and a friend in Chicago chided me for having too much “normal” music on my iPod, so he dumped a bunch of black metal—Gorgoroth, Deathspell Omega, Blut Aus Nord, Leviathan, 1349, and Lurker of Chalice to name a few—into my mp3 player. I had kinda tuned out on black metal by that point, so it was good to have an update on what was happening in that world. The iPod managed to outlive Apple’s usual 1-2 year lifespan for their products, and it accompanied me on many tours until it was accidentally left at the sound desk at Vera in Groningen, Netherlands back in 2015. I deleted a lot of stuff off the iPod over that time, but this gloomy and dynamic one-off by Leviathan’s Wrest remained encoded in the 1s-and-0s of my digital library til the very end.

Lurker of Chalice was repressed on vinyl earlier this year. Highly recommended for folks that like atmospheric depressive black metal but also want some savage fuckin’ riffs every now and then.
