Every Record I Own - Day 190: Various Artists Capitol City Soul
Not much to say about this one. One of the only restaurants I went to regularly the entire five years I lived in New York was Five Leaves in Greenpoint. My husband Reno and I would always opt to sit at the bar, where I’d order a burger and their house-blend of whisky on the rocks. The bartender was responsible for manning the turntable that supplied the restaurant with music, and I would frequently peek at their selections, which typically veered towards old soul collections, classic dub, and the occasional afrobeat or highlife album. This 2xLP Numero Group compilation of soul obscurities was playing one morning, and I figured it was a good Sunday morning album to have for the apartment. Bought it at Academy Records later that week. Goes well with your first cup of coffee.
