Every Record I Own - Day 187: Canned Heat The Very Best of…
Up until last year, Canned Heat were one of those bands that I knew by name, but couldn’t actually name a song or hum a bar of their music. They belonged in the same club as Badfinger or Humble Pie or Grand Funk Railroad—bands that I had a pretty concrete idea of their sound without actually being certain I’d ever heard them.
Last year we did a couple of tours with Mastodon and Eagles of Death Metal, and for some reason “Going Up the Country” just seemed to be playing everywhere. It was on the stereo in a backstage room; it was in a commercial on the television in a hotel room; it was playing in a bar down the street from the club. It was a song that seemed somehow unintentionally connected to those tours.
Who am I to fight the universe? I bought the LP at a tour stop in Michigan.
